gifts

It’s that time of year! College graduation invites are coming in– and its match week for all my med school folks– and you’ve got to get shopping for the perfect gift for the lady in your life who is about to take her next step, whether that be a job, residency, a big move, or whatever.

I put together a list of some items at different price points that I think would be amazing college or higher ed graduation gifts for any woman in your life! Let me know what you think. What was your favorite graduation gift?

Gold Bangle: The Yearly Company is one of the coolest businesses I have found in a while. They make real gold bangles, designed to be given yearly or for special events like graduations, marriages, and babies. If you get your graduating girl one now, its so easy to just keep giving them when she hits major milestones! Built-in future gift ideas, and she will love stacking them.

Charm Bracelet: If you know me, you know I love Alex and Ani bracelets. They have the cutest college collection of charm bangles, so you can get your graduate a little piece of her alma mater to take with her wherever she goes. See them here.

Leather Tote: Your girl is about to be running all over the place, from job interviews to happy hour and everywhere in between. Give her a big tote bag that she can stuff her laptop, notebook, and a pair of flip flops in, and she will be a happy girl. Bonus if it comes with a wristlet attached! This is one of my favorite totes because it is designed to fit a MacBook, and it’s available in different colors!

Bedding: Get her some cute pillows and bedding to make that college mattress look a little more adult. I love light colors with muted patterns!

Kitchenware: While really anything for the kitchen is a good gift, some real bowls and plates can really make the new college graduate feel like an adult. And look like one too when people come over! I love this baby blue set, and they are the perfect cereal size… which I ate a lot of at that time.

Books on how to kick a**: Books are one of the best gifts, especially for graduation. Girl Stop Apologizing is the new book by Rachel Hollis and is supposed to be amazing for women who want to learn how to fearlessly take on their goals and conquer them. Buy it here.

Mother’s Day is upon us, and it can be downright daunting to have to pick the perfect gift for mama.

First of all, I have to say I am truly blessed to have such strong women in my life. I have a mother I absolutely couldn’t live without, as well as an aunt and cousins that are like sisters. My future mother-in-law is amazing, which I am so excited about. My grandmother was also a huge influence on me, and I’m lucky to have had her for the 16 years I did. There’s no gift that could embody how much I adore these women.

But, I always try to show how much I appreciate my mom. I have definitely given some gifts over the years that I regret, because she probably didn’t use them as much as I envisioned. That’s why this year, I’m really trying to only give gifts for any occasion that I think the recipient will love and use– and not something that just takes up space. We all have too much stuff to just get more!

If you’re looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift for your mom, or a strong woman in your life, look no further. Here’s my top gifts for this holiday!

Mother's Day, Ivana Hrynkiw, Southern Style Diaries, gift guide

La Mer creme

Supposedly the best moisturizer on the planet, this stuff is pretty much at the top of every woman’s wish list. While it’s expensive, there are travel size and smaller options for us on a budget!

Jewelry organizer

If your mama is like mine, she’s got a lot of jewelry! A jewelry organizer is always a good idea, because it’s so easy to misplace earrings or make a total mess of your countertop. I love this one because its got three bars for necklaces, and you can put your longer ones on top without them tangling with your shorter necklaces. There is also a tray on the bottom for rings or stud earrings. My mom wears a lot of clip earrings too, and that’s a perfect place for them.

Southern Living magazine subscription

It’s hard to beat a good magazine subscription. My mom doesn’t get Southern Living, but she does get Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. I will say though, what southern woman wouldn’t enjoy SL? It’s got great gardening tips, recipes, and home decor ideas. The publisher also makes special edition issues, so there’s a good chance there’s one she’ll find interesting.

Peacock pearl triple strand necklace

This is one of my jewelry companies, and I might be biased because the owner is my good friend! But, she’s amazing. She makes necklaces, earrings, and bracelets and takes custom orders for just about anything. I love her long necklaces that can be wrapped several times, and also her statement earrings. My mom has a huge pearl obsession, and Knotty Designs has so many options!

Silk floral scarf

To be totally honest, I think this scarf would be more for me anyway… but I know mom would love it too. It’s big enough to tie around a handbag for some color, and also small enough to wear as a neckerchief (that’s the hip word, right?) This one is from Urban Outfitters but I know Target has a very similar option!

Revision Skincare serum

I’ve never used this line, but my mom does and she loves it! They sell this line at a lot of med-spas and I know several bloggers that use it and swear by Revision. Again they can be pricey, but Amazon has some great deals and you can often find it through third-party seller for a little cheaper.

What are you getting your mama (or aunt, or mother-in-law) for Mother’s Day?Follow

I love the holiday season for so many reasons, and one of my favorite things is shopping for that perfect gift for my friends and family! Nowadays, there are so many products shoved in our faces that sometimes it’s tough to figure out what the best gifts really are. I put together a gift guide of some of my favorite things to get for Christmas, so maybe it will help you figure out what to buy that special someone (or to ask Santa for!)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping Season to all, and to all a good night!

Shop the gift guide

1- Mou Eskimo Sheepskin Winter Boot

I am slightly obsessed with these boots! The only thing I don’t love is the price point, so I’m working to find dupes on Amazon or a gently used pair on eBay. But, in a perfect world, I would have ordered these babies yesterday. A great gift for any woman is always a good pair of fuzzy slippers or comfy boots!

2- InkJoy Pens & Cambridge Notebooks
There is nothing I need more in life, or love, more than pens and a cute notebook to write in! Both my day job and this blog require lots of writing, and I am a person that would much rather write things down on paper than electronically.

3- Apple Watch

Truth, I asked my daddy for a gold Apple Watch with a pink band… I have a problem. But, everyone and their mother has an iWatch these days! I know, because my mom has one.

4- Nike Pro Warm Dri-FIT Leggings

Most of my days consist of going to work, to the gym, and home. If its not work clothes or gym clothes, I don’t need it! I have several pairs of exercise shorts, but I only have a few pairs of leggings that I rotate during the winter months for my workouts. I’m sure my trainers and my workout friends would really appreciate a few new, clean leggings.

5- Target’s Animal Print Design Faux Fur Throw

Every year I ask for a fuzzy blanket. I have never regretted it, and she won’t either.

6- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

I have fought the crowd so hard on this palette, but I’m close to breaking. It is just SO gorgeous! And, word on the street is, the colors are beautifully pigmented and have minimal fallout. Every beauty guru either wants this product, or already has it. Ya’ll know I love a good bargain though, and I have heard this Wet N Wild version in “Rose in the Air” is a complete dupe!

7- Copper Measuring Spoons

I have copper pots, an ice bucket, measuring cups, pans, you name it. They look beautiful hanging on my kitchen wall, and they’re useful too! The only thing I’m missing is copper measuring spoons… meaning I may have to buy these for myself.
