fall

It’s the most wonderful time of the year— boot season! I love a good boot or bootie paired with just about anything. They’re flattering, comfortable, and usually easy to walk in. They are also practical, which is something that definitely factors in for me!

Things on my list for boots this season: Western style and neutral colors.

Graphic of eight boots for fall 2019

1. American Rag western booties: These are a Macy’s exclusive, so head there before they sell out! I love the western style– it can be dressed up or down so easily.

2. Seychelles Coastal River boot: While these don’t totally fall into my western theme, I think these are so classic and the seams do give a little interest and texture. This brand is also so underrated!

3. Dolce Vita Solei boots: Obssssssessed with these babies but they are definitely a splurge. They come in brown and gray but I am in love with this color and with the western dip at the top, which brings me to…

4. Crown Vintage Windy cowboy boot: These boots are total dupes! The only thing is I wish the toe was pointy, like the DV ones, but for the price difference it’s completely worth it. And, the color is nearly identical. These will go with everything this fall/winter and I’ve already ordered from DSW!

5. Ugg Tania boots: I haven’t bought a new pair of Uggs… ever actually. I have the same ones I got for Christmas in early high school and they are definitely in need of a replacement! I love the height of these ones and also the fur detail on the top.

6. Sam Edelman leopard booties: I love the pattern and the buckle detail. There’s something about a printed bootie that gets me every time.

7. Sam Edelman Hiltin tall boots: These are another splurge, but Nordstrom has them on sale right now if you’re interested. I love the color of these too and also the structured, classic look. Right before posting this though, I found another dupe! This one from Target, and I ordered as soon as I saw them. Hurry, they won’t last long.

8. Marc Fisher Rental 2 Chelsea: I have had a fling with white booties this year, and these are no exception. I have a plain, smooth pair from Forever 21 but I adore the texture of these! And, again with the pointy toe. Definitely a pattern here- the point makes your legs look longer and thinner.

It’s that time of year- turkey and sweet potatoes and pecan pie! Before our family Thanksgiving, I wanted to have our friends over for a Friendsgiving and celebrate the friendships we’re so lucky to have. I love hosting, and I love decorating my house for parties— especially the dining room table.

Pretty tablescapes are one of my favorite things and I’m constantly finding inspiration on Pinterest or in magazines of how I want my table to look for different events. For this year’s Friendsgiving, I wanted a table with a lot of natural elements like greenery and lit candles. I pulled some inspo from one of may favorite bloggers Living With Landyn, if you want to check out her gorgeous table!

I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on table decorations, so was able to be a little thrifty and come up with some inexpensive ways to make this dinner table pop.

table, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving table, tablescape, Southern Style Diaries The lanterns were actually used at my wedding on top of the fireplace mantle, and I got them from an older sorority sister who used them at her wedding. They’ve been through a lot! I used little battery-powered votive candles inside, because our venue was a wooden horse barn and we couldn’t have real flames. I left those little guys in there and just switched them on.

The real candles were unscented, so we didn’t have an overpowering smell on top of the cooking in the kitchen. I got a set of 20 of these small, white candles from Amazon for $10.99 and I know I can use them at tons of different parties we have! I lit them at 4 p.m. and they burned until my husband blew them out around 10 p.m. They’re surprisingly good quality!

The two little pumpkins are porcelain and from Target’s dollar section. Honestly I would have preferred the real, small pumpkins but Target didn’t have any and I definitely didn’t feel like going to another store…

The greenery is clipped from my mom’s garden. There is no need to buy greenery if you, your family, or your neighbor has a garden! You can clip several stems of greenery off a tree or bush and the tree looks no different. Plus, its free! (just make sure you ask first!) I tried to get a variety of leaves and stems, but I focused on laying the flat magnolia leaves across the table and then adding in the spruces in the more bald areas.

The stone and copper coasters were both gifts- the copper a wedding gift and the stone a Christmas gift from years ago. Here are some similar options for both!

Do you like setting up a pretty table, or are you more a grab-and-go kind of family? Let me know if you try this look!

Happy Thanksgiving/ Friendsgiving y’all!

Hi ya’ll! I’ve been in a creative rut lately, but now that the cooler temperatures are finally coming I am feeling more inspired.

Here in Alabama, the weather is STILL reaching the 80s in the afternoons– not cool October. But, the only plus side of that is that I can mix in some of my favorite fall pieces with some warm-weather faves! Here’s one outfit combo I don’t think you can go wrong with: A loose floral blouse, a denim skirt, and mules. I reach for this kind of look time and time again when I’m going to eat with my family, having lunch with girlfriends, or trying a new restaurant with my fiancé for dinner.

(PSSSST I’ll be saying husband soon!!)

My exact top is from Old Navy, and can a similar style can be found here. Similar tops are here and here! My skirt is old from Forever 21, but here’s a super close option. Mules are Marc Fisher, and he has some new ones for this season here!

I’m having a thing with mules right now. Some other favorites are from Sole Society, Target, and ShopBop. I have the Target ones in tan and I wear them weekly!

Happy finally almost fall! 🙂fall, Southern Style Diaries, Ivana HrynkiwFollow

Happy Thursday!

Ya’ll know I love fall, and even though we’re still sweating in Alabama, I am already dreaming of red leaves and cooler temps. Fall is the best season to get outdoors and enjoy the cooler temps with good company and a good hot cup of coffee!

Here are some of the things I know I want to do this season… ending with the best one, getting married!! The countdown is on! I have a feeling this fall will be my best yet.

What are you most looking forward to this season? Let me know!

We’re so close to fall, and I can’t wait!

Fall is my favorite time of the year for many reasons– a chill in the air, the upcoming holidays, pumpkin-flavored everything… and fall fashion. To me, there’s nothing better than a good pair of boots and oversized sweater!

As fall approaches, I love seeing all the transition pieces start coming out. While I can’t wait to get a new pair of OTK boots, it makes sense to pick up a few pieces that I can wear now and take into fall with a good denim jacket or pair of leggings.

On that note, here’s my top pieces to take you into fall. And, they’re all from Amazon! Fall fashion plus Amazon prime… you had me at hello.

Happy fall shopping!

Amazon, Amazon fashion, fall, fall fashion, Southern Style Diaries1. Nine West Levona Crossbody with Floral Pom: The cutest little bag to go from work to date night! This will look awesome with jeans and a white button down now, and with a sweater later.

2. Ella Moon Waterfall Collar Cardigan: I’m a sucker for fringe sweaters, and I can’t wait to wear this over a plain white tank and jeans. You can also wear with leggings when you want a little warmth but don’t want to put on real clothes!

3. Qupid Mule Fashion Bootie: I have these in white, and I’m so obsessed with them. They’re comfortable, affordable, and a lot more versatile than you think! Def going to have to pick them up in black, too.

4. Ella Moon One Shoulder Ruffle Mini Dress: How precious would this be for a fall wedding! If it’s a little chilly, throw on a leather jacket and you’re good to go.

5. Guilty Heart Chunky Block Heel: I ordered these yesterday, and I’m anxiously awaiting their arrival. For $25, you can’t beat these suede heels! The style is exactly like a pair of Sam Edelman’s I have, and everyone needs a pair of leopard heels to wear with dark denim in the fall.

6. LianSan Classic Metal Frame Round Mirrored Sunglasses: A pair of pink sunnies is good year round. Just because the sun starts setting earlier in the fall doesn’t mean you don’t need eye protection (or SPF)!

7. After Market Woven Dress: Again, ordered this over the weekend. I’ve had my eye on this dress forever, but it was over $100… I bought for $18! Buy this before it goes! Also comes in navy, which would look awesome with a denim jacket for chilly weather.

8. Alexy Mottled Resin Hoops: I am obsessed with these! I got them a few weeks ago and have been wearing them nonstop. They’re super lightweight, go with everything, and are $11. Trendy fashion at a good price!Follow

Hey ya’ll! So, so sorry I’ve been MIA the last two weeks. Everything has been crazy with work, wedding planning, and my small ounce of a social life. Anyway, everything is finally settling down and I have the opportunity to sit down and get back on my blogging schedule!

Today, I want to talk about kimonos that every woman needs in her closet. I love kimonos– they can take a simple jeans and a tee look into something fun and creative, without really any effort at all! I also have taken a page from my Mom’s book, and started wearing them when I want to cover my shoulders for work or because my outfit needs a little something , and I don’t want to just throw on something boring.

There are so many types of kimonos out there right now, and here are my favorite ones that I think you need for the fall! The item is linked at the beginning of each blurb, where it reads “(blank) kimono.”

Enjoy, and happy shopping!

Black kimono— Everyone needs a versatile black kimono in their closet. It can pretty much be paired with anything, dressed up or down, and gives you a little shoulder coverage for when either a) it’s chilly, b) you’re at work or another professional venue where you feel like covering up a little more, or c) you just think your outfit needs something. This simple piece from ASOS is $29, has a cute lace trim and subtle side slits, so it moves with you. Perfect for the kimono newbie!

Satin kimono— Total disclosure– I found this kimono while writing this post, and ordered it immediately. I can’t help myself. The lavender satin is beautiful for a fancy dinner with your beau or a cocktail party… but, I plan on wearing it more casually too, by pairing it with a white tank and black jeans. Wear slides or booties with this, and you have achieved the ultimate cool girl vibe. It’s $78, comes in black (!!!) and, since Victoria’s Secret probably made it for this reason, can be used as a nighttime robe. Lord, please let this be at my doorstep soon.

Floral kimono— A long, pink, floral kimono is pretty much my dream. I love the length of this piece, because it seems dramatic but the overall fit keeps it breezy and perfect for a day at work (or at least, for my work!). The floral pattern on this $49 Love, Fire kimono runs down the sides near the opening, on the back, and on the sleeves, which I totally love. Florals can get real busy looking, real fast… but this simple pattern nixes that issue.

Velvet kimono– This navy, velvet baby is GORGEOUS. I love the pattern, because it looks like the night sky to me. It’s Free People, but $88 is not too bad for the brand’s quality fabric and timeless style. I don’t have this kimono, just I want it so badly! Someone add to my fashion fund!

Fringe kimono— This fringe kimono is half sexy, half elegant… which is pretty much all you can ask for, right? I love the pink paisley detailing towards the bottom, but I love how the top is sheer so you can see through to your shoulders. This would work perfectly over a black dress for date night, or over jeans and a tee shirt for a casual Saturday or drinks with your girlfriends. Also, at $17, what’s not to love? (PS if you haven’t ever used SheIn, or even heard of it, check out this post for my experience with the site!)

Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons: The crisp weather, the beautiful leaves, the excuse to consume as many pumpkin-flavored products as humanly possible… the list goes on. But, one of my favorite things about fall is the fashion. September is the month when all of the designers debut their new collections and their warmer-weather gear, and it gets me in the mood for the cooler temperatures.

However, in Alabama, we’re still burning up. If you are ready to break out your fall clothes or start buying some new trends, try to think of how you will wear them now, while it’s still warm- and later when the cool air hits. Here are three of my wardrobe staples that will be carrying me into fall, but will be comfortable while the heat is still around.

Overalls

So many people associate overalls with summer and don’t think about the potential these babies can have for the fall. Mine are from Target, and I gave them a distressed look by taking a razor and sandpaper to the knees and pocket areas. Cuff the ends for an I-woke-up-like-this vibe.

Wear it now: Layer a tank or short-sleeve shirt underneath with your hair in a top knot. (A striped shirt can never fail with these!)

Wear it later: Wear a long-sleeve shirt or thermal and booties. All the great things about wearing jeans, but you don’t even need a belt!

(Overalls from Target)

Printed flares

These are my life. Printed pants are some of my favorite things ever and they can be dressed up for work, or dressed down for a Saturday running errands. These printed flares, from Forever 21, are thin enough to let your skin breathe but cover your legs on cool nights. They also feel like pajama pants, which is always a plus. Embrace the 70s vibe of printed flares, but keep the focus of your outfit on the pants- otherwise, it could be overbearing.

Wear it now: V-necks balance flares because they make your torso look longer. Add a long necklace to enhance the effect.

Wear it later: Add leather booties, a chunky sweater, and hoop earrings. Voila! The perfect fall night outfit in two minutes. (BONUS: If you’re an Auburn fan, just add a orange sweater and you’re set for game day!)

(Pants from Forever 21 [these are similar, different pattern], top from Target, necklace from local boutique)

Flowy basic top

I’m not sure what else to say about this shirt. It’s a staple that everyone should have. Black, white, beige, grey… A loose top in a neutral is pretty much going to get you through the season. It will go with every pair of jeans you own, and will even cover your behind with leggings. Double win.

img_5325

Wear it now: A top like this with layered necklaces and denim shorts equals instant cool girl style. Give the shirt a half-tuck into your shorts, and wear short booties.

Wear it later: Black skinny jeans will balance out the boxy-ness of the top, and a tall heel will make you look skyscraper tall.
